Meet our Pastor

Rev. Burnetta Armour

I was born in Troy, NC and lived most of my life near a little town outside of Asheboro, NC called Seagrove, which happens to be the “Pottery Capital of North Carolina.”  After graduating from high school at Southwestern Randolph High School, I attended Western Carolina University where I majored in English Education.  I went on to teach for five years in the North Carolina Public School System—teaching high school English for one year and 8th grade language arts and North Carolina history for four years. In 2005, I answered the call to ordained ministry, and in 2006, began studies for my Masters of Divinity at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. . I graduated from seminary in 2009 and followed up my seminary studies with a year-long chaplain residency at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, SC.  In 2010, I received a call to serve as the pastor of Millersburg First and Clark Community Presbyterian Churches in Millersburg, OH.  On October 24, 2010, I was ordained as a Minister of Word and Sacrament at my home church, Asheboro First Presbyterian Church, Asheboro, NC. On November 14, 2010, I was installed as the pastor of Millersburg First and Clark Community Presbyterian Churches.  This is my first pastorate, and I feel blessed to be here and to serve as pastor of these two amazing congregations.

"My favorite Bible verses are Psalm 139 and Jeremiah 29:11"

On March 22, 1834, Nathaniel Conklin, a Circuit Rider, started Presbyterian church services in the home of Wm. Craig with twelve charter members. In 1837, George Weatherwax was given a contract to build a log church for the sum of $200. This was built on the level spot of ground at the present cemetery location. Rev. Conklin served as pastor for eight years. He was succeesed by Rev. Marquis, who served for 15 years. Near the close of his ministry, a much larger frame building was erected. The congregation worshipped in this building until Sept. 21, 1902. During that summer a new site was chosen in the village of Clark, where the present Church is located.

In July of 1825, Rev John Stockton was sent to Millersburg by the Western Missionary Society from Pittsburgh to preach for the people of Millersburg. There was no organization at first, but church was held in the log courthouse on the public square or outside if it became full. The Presbytery of Mt. Vernon recognized it has a church a few months later. The first Elders were Samuel Tidball and John Kerr, ordination unknown, but they were acting as a Session in 1830.
